Dallas

Dallas features a predominantly flat terrain characterized by elevations generally ranging from 450 to 550 feet (137 to 168 meters) above sea level. The landscape is shaped significantly by the western edge of the Austin Chalk Formation, a limestone escarpment known as the White Rock Escarpment, which rises approximately 230 feet (70 meters) and extends in a north-south direction through the region. This geological feature creates noticeable variations in topography, particularly in areas south of the Trinity River, such as Oak Cliff and its surroundings. Additionally, the area around Turtle Creek, north of downtown, exhibits further undulations, contributing to a diverse urban landscape within this otherwise relatively flat region.
